Our 1st Pupil Parliament meeting

Today was a very exciting day. It was our 1st meeting as the Alnwick Partnership Pupil Parliament and Swansfield Park Primary School hosted. Pupils from Year 4, 5 and 6 were chooses by their peers to represent their school, Whittingham Primary, Ellingham Primary, Belford Primary, Seahouses Primary and Embleton Primary, at our parliament meetings. We started the day by understanding what a manifesto was and creating rosettes that represent our school.
It was soon time to start preparing for our 1st debate. Should we reduce screen time for children. We then had an exciting visit from Kevin and Steven from Thompsons opticians in Alnmwick, who came to share their expertise on the effect of screens on our eyes. Armed with this information we continued our research to prepare and take part in a House of Commons style debate.  The majority agreed that children's screen time should be limited and even came up with some fantastic solutions to help this.

We had a fantastic time and can't wait for our next Pupil Parliament meeting and the debate of Should children be allowed to drive?
